Awendo jittery over insecurity as woman body exhumed from sugar plantation

The body was discovered by workers from Sony Sugar Company who were weeding the firm’s sugar plantation

Awendo town residents have called for police to help tackle runaway insecurity after a body of a women buried in a shallow grave was discovered in a shallow grave within the Sony sugar company plantation, a few metres from Awendo town.

Company’s casual workers discovered the body while wedding last Thursday and alerted police.

“We were with other company workers when we reached a spot where there was foul smell, we inspected and spotted a leg of the deceased,” Samuel Onyango said.

Onyango said the discovery has irked them as this is the fifth body discovered in a similar way recently in the area

Awendo sub-county police commander Mathias Pombo said officers are yet to identify the bod which had decomposing.

“The body was moved to Rapcom Hospital mortuary pending identification, autopsy and police investigations,” he said.

He called on the public to help police with information to tackle runaway insecurity.
