Awendo Boda boda operators demonstrated over poor state of roads in the area by blocking county government revenue collection.

Awendo Boda Boda Association chairman Samuel Orio and organising secretary Collins Odindo led colleagues to block Migori County government tax and cess collectors from operation.

They also blocked access for sugarcane hauling tractors   from Sukari Industries and Trans Mara Sugar in the area from accessing roads accusing them of destroying the road.

“With the heavy rains in the area we have suffered constant bad roads with our customers and heavy cost of buying spare parts,” Orio said.

He said their customers have been forced to walk in some section of the roads or risk falling down from the bikes.

“We stopped county officials from collecting taxes from boda boda riders until the roads are repaired,” Orio said.

South Sakwa MCA Ken Ngoro said cess collection resumed and Sukari Industries started repairing roads.

“Already Sukari Industries started repairing some roads while Trans Mara also promised, Sony is currently having financial woes. Riders should know the current poor state of roads is felt across the country,” Ngoro said.

He said road repairs across the county will begin once rains subside.
