Assembly boost oversight through motion to summon lazy executives

Migori county assembly has boosted its oversight role by passing a motion that will compel the County Executive Committee members to appear before committees.

The motion will also require any county government official to appear before different house committees in charge to answer any query concerning their dockets.

The motion was presented in the floor of the house by majority leader Richard Solo and supported unanimously by members.

Solo’s motion will also allow any MCA to be able to attend a committee meeting and raise any question concerning his ward.

Speaking to Migori News, Solo said currently no law allowed CECs to appear before the county assembly for queries.

“This new law gives assembly members opportunity to interrogate the concern persons via house committee meetings,” he said.

He said some executives are not delivery to the expectation and therefore the motion passed will compel them to appear before the different house committees to explain why they can deliver as expected.

“The motion will enhance the opposition oversight role in the county government a notch higher,” Solo said.
