Migori County Civil Society Groups want the call of impeaching Governor Zachary Obado done in fair and peaceful process.

Their statement comes as the ODM party prepares to table the motion on Wednesday after pro-longed delays.

The Civil Society Groups during celebration of International Peace Day at Kehancha Primary School in Kuria West on Monday tasked all those involved in the impeachment to cultivate a conducive atmosphere for a fair and transparent process.

Bishop Charles Otigo, representative of Migori Interfaith Council who spoke on behalf of religious groups said county residents should be ready to accept the impeachment verdict peacefully. He however expressed satisfaction that so far there were no disturbing peace threats in the Governor Obado ouster bid.

The Deliverance Church Bishop called on the political factions, religious groups and the entire Migori fraternity to embrace fair and transparent vote and avoid situations which can heighten divisions and animosity.

Castro Baraza, official at Peace Net Program –Kenya, said Migori residents expect a peaceful proposed Obados impeachment process. He also applauded the residents for demonstrating willingness to live together peacefully despite political, religious and cultural diversity enriched in Migori County.

Paul Obayo from Champions of Peace Kenya also pointed out land ownership disputes, cattle rustling and FGM as key source of divisions in Kuria community. He however agreed that concerted efforts from stakeholders led by the security team have changed the perception.

Kuria West Member of Parliament Mathias Robi also present at the function said peace threats formally embedded in the Kuria community have over time been weakened or eliminated completely.
