A dormitory at Moi Suba Girls razed to ground, 68 students affected

A total of 68 students will spend the night in cold when they report back at Moi Suba Girls in Migori town for term two classes.

The inferno started at night on Sunday and neighbours attempted to put off the fire using extinguishers and water to not avail, the classes were razed to the ground.

The school deputy principal Oyier Milka said that the fire started at around 7 p.m. n the night after she had noise from people outside when she was in the office and rushed to see the incident and it had already been consumed by the fire. 

She said that those who raised the alarm were masons who were building a neighboring building and raised the alarm that attracted the school neighbors who tried their best to put out the fire using fire extinguishers and even called the county fire engine that arrived late and could not salvage any students’ belongings that had been burnt to ashes. 

Oyier said the affected students will have an alternative place to accommodate them as most of the affected were form ones and two students that are still on holiday and are expected to report to school from today evening as per the school calendar.

On the same note Suna West Sub County Commander Elizabeth Wakuloba said that the incident happened yesterday night and nothing was salvaged from the dormitory that was built by iron sheets. 

She added that police have commenced investigations and will also speak to those who saw the inferno so that they could get to the bottom of the matter.
