We have just listed politicians without necessarily giving them position because of competition and difference in impact which varies.
The list has four national legislators, four county elected leaders and two aspirants who we believe made the mark to appear here.
Boaz Okoth, Deputy Speaker
The North Kadem MCA fend off strong opposition from ODM to clinch his seat in the last polls in a little known Agano Party before becoming the Deputy Speaker. His presence in impeachment motion against Speaker Ogolla this year was conspicuous. He has been a vocal supporter of Gov Okoth Obado and has used his closeness to be Obado’s main man in Nyatike.
Paul Abuor, Aspirant- Rongo Constituency
Anne Omodho Anyanga, Aspirant- Governor
Dennitah Ghati, Women Representative
Mobiliser-per-excellence, Ghati successful managed to clinch her seat in last elections after strongly campaigning when the seat was left vacant in the infamous Luo-Kuria pack which set aside Deputy Governor and Senator seat. Her win was on basis of strategy and was never handed over by ODM as she had to wade off strong opposition from Fatuma “FullNetwork” Mohammed. Her star was quickly rising after 2013 before she was derailed by an unfortunate accident that left her on a wheelchair. Recently she has gained ground by meeting the people tour across the county to fulfil her campaign pledges. She will defend her seat in 2017. She is the second most popular woman leader to have made it on our list.
Junet Mohammed, MP Suna East
Merezza Akello Tingo, MCA Ikerege Ward, Kuria West
She is the only MCA on this list and she’s here solely as the first and only duly elected female MCA out of all 40 wards in Migori. The rest female MCAs are on gender top-up nomination list, with their input in house debate being questioned by the public and fellow MCAs. Ms Tingo is from East Kamagambo and was elected in Ikerege where is marriage. She is fluent n both Dholuo and Kuria, and they are calls for her to vie for the Women Representative seat in next polls.
Edick Anyanga, MP Nyatike
The second term MP and Migori Parliamentary Group chair, Anyanga elicits strong support from his admires and fervent criticism from those who never share his ideas. He managed to clinch back his seat despite longstanding opposition back home and his wife Anne Omodho Anyanga vying the Governor seat in last polls. Anyanga has emerged as ODM opinion sharper in Migori, the same position left by Rongo MP Dalmas Otieno after he attempted to form “Kalausi” party wing. His statement and opinion especially when they share a platform with Gov Okoth Obado (Who considers him his fiercest critic) often elicit interest. Of late he has publically agreed to support Obado governance for the sake of development until next polls.
Okoth Obado, Governor
Migori first governor who has managed to mid-wife devolution after narrowly winning the seat from ODM’s Prof. Edward Oyugi/Anne Omodho Anyanga and followed a long and successful petition that ended at the Supreme Court. He has managed over Sh18biliion budget for the county in past three financial years, his success is subject to debate depending on political affiliation. His highest point is launching the diary project, tarmac and place solar lights within county. His lowest point is the Sh600million corruption allegation raised by the Audit Report in 2014/15 FY. The PDP leader is seeking re-election in 2017 first under his party or through ODM nomination.
Gordon Ogolla, Speaker
Mathias Robi, MP Kuria West
Governor Obado should be re-elected since he has initiated several projects in the county.
