Inside Wanga’s Two Months Plan To Upgrade Kabunde Airstrip For Bigger Planes

Homa Bay governor Gladys Wanga has set out a two months plan for expansion of Kabunde Airstrip to receive bigger planes.

In a cabinet meeting, Wanga said the expansion was part of her campaign pledge which will help spur the region’s economy through trade, tourism among other sectors.

Renegate Air Company, alocal domestic Airline is expected to make a five day maiden trip from Wilson Aisrtrip in Nairobi to Kabunde Airsptrip  in Homa Bay.

“Already Renegade Air,a local domestic airline company has committed to resume five weekly scheduled flights to Kabunde Airsptrip from Wilson Airport,Nairobi within the next two months,” Wanga informed the meeting.

This was after Wanga met the officials of the company in Nairobi where the agreement was made.

The trips to the Airstrip had been suspended owing to the operational cost that was transferred to travellers and made the Air tickets expensive.

Homa Bay’s Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development department together with the Roads and Public Works are aligning all land related issues that will allow the expeditious extension of the Airstrip’s runway alongside other critical improvements at the facility.

The County will also acquire a five acre land at Oyugis Municipality which will be used to set up a separate planting line with the Government’s commitments towards actualized the requirements of the sustainable solid waste management Act 2022.

The members also approved the tendering of various road networks within the county to enhance trade, access to health servises, schools and beaches.
